2 student assistants (f/m/d) for the conception of an exhibition

As part of a DFG project, the professorship of Cultural and Social Anthropology (focus on East Asia), Prof. Dr. Jean-Baptiste Pettier (https://www.sdac.studium.fau.de/person/prof-dr-jean-baptiste-pettier), is looking for two student assistants to design an exhibition on the topic of “Illegal trade of the protected marine species seahorse”. The exhibition is intended to address the causes of the threat to this species based on various regional focuses (Madagascar, China, Europe) and aims to show visitors the economic, cultural and moral challenges and consequences of illegal trade using film and photographic material. The two positions cover different areas of responsibility and therefore require different skills.

Your Tasks

Position 1:

  • Preparation of the visual identity and design (logo, poster, etc.)
  • Preparation of the exhibition scenography (including the evaluation of the collected objects)
  • Selection and preparation of photographs for the exhibition (and an accompanying publication)
  • Search for and selection of an exhibition venue
  • Support in setting up and dismantling the exhibition

Position 2:

  • Video editing and editing of a film or a series of short film sequences for the exhibition
  • Preparation of a website for a virtual version of the exhibition
  • Preparation and implementation of the visual identity of the online design for the exhibition
  • Assisting with the installation and dismantling of the physical exhibition

Your Profile

Necessary qualifications:

  • Interest in the topic of the exhibition, ethnographic research topics and/or the geographical focus
  • Currently enrolled in a degree with relevant courses on topics such as design, media studies, exhibition conception, etc.
  • Proven experience with media, in particular:
  • Position 1: Graphic design, image editing software, digital editing of photographs
  • Position 2: Video processing (scene editing, sound editing, adding subtitles, knowledge of how to use appropriate software), websites (Wordpress)
  • Experience in the conception or planning of an exhibition in any form is an advantage
  • German skills may be required for some of the tasks

Additional Information

  • 4 h/week (with possibility of increase depending on workload)
  • The position is limited to 1 year
  • Payment according to the FAU salary scale for student assistants
  • Working hours by agreement
